Aed Energy Completes DOE-Supported Commercialization Strategy with Grand Summit Group

Oct 7, 2025

Aed Energy, a developer of advanced thermal long-duration energy storage (LDES) systems, has successfully completed a commercialization project supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Electricity through its Energy Storage Technical Assistance Voucher Program. The project was delivered in partnership with Grand Summit Group, a specialized commercialization and engineering consultancy, and facilitated by Energywerx.

The program provided Aed Energy with a comprehensive commercialization pathway that strengthens the business case for its LDES technology and positions the company to prepare for  manufacturing, pilot deployment, and scale-up.

The project focused on advancing Aed Energy’s technology readiness for large-scale applications by addressing system economics, grid reliability, supply chain strategy, and certification requirements. The resulting commercialization framework enables Aed Energy to deliver reliable, dispatchable energy to support critical infrastructure and grid stability during extreme weather and operational stress events.

CEO of Aed Energy, Rayan Kassis said: "This work has given us a clear path from pilot to commercial deployment. By validating the economic case, defining a scalable supply chain strategy, and laying out a stepwise certification plan, we’ve built the foundation to move confidently toward U.S. projects and manufacturing - enabling clean, affordable energy wherever it’s needed."

Key outcomes:

·       Economic competitiveness: Independent validation confirmed a very low Levelized Cost of Storage (LCOS) compared to incumbent technologies, driven by long operational life and minimal replacement costs.

·       Capital-efficient scaling: A fab-less manufacturing model enables rapid growth while localizing production and supporting high-skilled jobs.

·       Integration with hybrid systems: The technology serves as a flexible enabler for both intermittent renewables and baseload power, improving overall system efficiency.

·       Enhanced grid resiliency: Validated capability to provide reliable, dispatchable capacity for utilities and industrial users.

·       Path to bankability: A phased validation and certification roadmap designed for customer acceptance.

Peter Ciulla, Principal Partner at Grand Summit Group, said:

“Aed Energy is tackling one of the most critical challenges for our nation's grid — ensuring reliable, dispatchable power 24/7. Our collaboration translated their innovative technology into a tangible, bankable, and scalable business case. By systematically addressing everything from economics to certification, Aed Energy is now well-positioned to support a more resilient and secure energy future.”

The DOE Voucher Program, facilitated by Energywerx, connects energy innovators with third-party experts to overcome commercialization, market, and manufacturing barriers.
